19 February 2020: Demonstration by PhD student Huma Israr at UET Lahore

PhD student Huma Israr gave a demonstration of her work in machine translation, at 7th International Conference on Language and Technology 2020 (CLT20) at Univ. of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

18 February 2020: FYP team Flowlines won Microsoft imagine cup's Pakistan final round

Microsoft Imagine Cup was held at Pak-China Centre, Islamabad. It is a premier international event about product ideas and software development. This year, around 600 teams from all over Pakistan applied for this competition. Team “Flowlines” from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), was declared National Winner. The winning project is a collaborative mobile app, where users can draw images and write text in the air, which can be seen by anyone, through augmented reality technology. The team members; Mahad Masood Bajwa, Momin Muazzam and Noor binte Amir conceived the idea and worked under the supervision of their faculty advisor, Dr. M. Ali Tahir. The winning team is scheduled to travel to the next round of Microsoft Imagine Cup in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

17 February 2020: Symposium on Speech Recognition and Natural Language Processing

The symposium was organized at SEECS seminar hall by our research group. The following three talks were delivered.
- Deep Learning for Speech Recognition - by Prof. Dr. Mark Gales, Univ. Cambridge. (He is one of the pioneers and senior researchers in the field of speech recognition)
- Urdu Speech and NLP research at Centre for Language Engineering - by Dr. Farah Adeeba, UET Lahore
- Natural Language Processing and applications for treating learning disorders - by Dr. Seemab Latif, SEECS

2 May 2019: 2x FYP's were declared among best industrial projects at SEECS open house 2019 and given prizes

The projects were widely appreciated by industry mentors and participants who attended the open house and evaluated the projects.

29 Janurary 2019: FYP Sir Isaacbot won Rector's gold medal at SEECS convocation

The final year project of students Amna Abdul Rehman, Ramsha Khuram, Muhammad Ureb Hasan's title is "Conversational agent to serve as a personal companion". It is an AI driven chat bot aimed at advising college bound students about what career stream is most well suited to them. It offers career counselling to individuals in an adaptive manner, considering both internal characteristics such as grades, educational background etc. as well as external factors like location, job market etc in order to guide them about most suitable career stream.

19 December 2017: Dr. Tahir gives keynote talk at UET Lahore

The talk "Automatic speech recognition - theory and applications" was given at ICOSST 2017 conference at Univ. of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.

27 October 2017: BBC Urdu publishes an article about our Urdu speech recognition website is a free dictation website. Using this website, people can dictate Urdu text using their voice. This text can be pasted in email, searched on google, or posted on twitter.

9 October 2017: Dr. Tahir gives talk at Intl. Symposium on AI and Machine Learning at SEECS

The talk "Introduction to automatic speech recognition" was given at International Symposium on AI and Machine Learning, at SEECS.
